Secretarial Resources - Fund and Org Numbers
Every expense in the organization (salaries,
equipment, travel, printing, etc.) must be charged to a funding source. To
designate those funding sources in individual, group, or department budgets, we
use fund and organizational (org) numbers.
A fund number is used to designate the
particular source of money that will be charged for an expense. Each department
will have one or more fund numbers assigned to it, depending on the source of
funds. These funds can be from state, federal or grant sources. A fund number is
a five digit number (e.g., 14000).
An org number is used to assign expense charges
to a particular group, or department. It is designated by a four digit number
(e.g., 1200). Each group has at least one (and may have more) org numbers
assigned to its group.
