Programs - Faculty Leadership Program

Program Purpose:

The purpose of the Faculty Leadership Program is to build a skilled leadership base within the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service that is knowledgeable about organizational issues and programs to ensure that Extension has a viable future.

Program Goals:

  • To provide Extension professionals with vision, experience and tools to deal with a dynamic organization.
     
  • To help Extension professionals examine Cooperative Extension’s organizational and programming structures so that programs, resources and methods are designed to meet current and emerging needs.
     
  • To invest in emerging leaders by providing knowledge, skills and opportunities for growth.
     
  • To enable emerging leaders to identify processes involved in problem solving and analytical thinking; to make decisions with greater creativity and impact; to communicate more persuasively and effectively; and to better understand how personal values and attitudes affect their behavior and their relationships with others.

Who:

Extension faculty members and professionals, including county agents, specialists, and administrators, with a minimum of five years of Extension experience or combined university experience.

What:

The Faculty Leadership Program will focus on developing and building strengths related to seven core competencies through a variety of learning activities.

When:

The program will begin in January 2009. There are seven seminars. Each seminar is two and a half days in length and will take place every other month until January 2010. A five- to seven-day study tour to Washington, D.C. will take place in February 2010.

The locations for the seminars will be at University of Arkansas System and Division of Agriculture campuses around the state. The first seminar will be at the University of Arkansas System Office, Cammack Campus.
