Overview
UACES currently uses four systems to deliver and manage internal employee development activities delivered in the classroom, field, and online. Two of these systems -- Moodle and Centra -- are also available for training our public. Below is a brief description of each of these four systems.
1) In-Service Training management system - employees only
Employees use this system to view available courses, enroll in them, and view their personal list of courses they've enrolled in and fellow participants. Instructors use this system to add new courses to the catalog and submit course attendance and completion. In addition to the tasks listed, the system administrators perform maintenance, check and reconcile records, run reports, and provide support.

2) Online courses powered by Moodle
Our online course platform site houses free, online courses developed by our faculty for employees and our public. You might hear this site called "Moodle" which is actually the platform and its software that reside on the server. Users create their own accounts, receive an emailed confirmation link, and enroll themselves in courses. Employees should first enroll in a course through the In-Service Training system so it can become part of their official training record. These online courses are designed for learners to complete at their own pace by a stated close date. Many contain multimedia elements such as video, PowerPoint, narration, and interactive activities. There is no fee to build or complete a course on this site. Instructors building courses on this site are expected to follow development and review standards.

3) Virtual classrooms and meetings via Centra
"Synchronous" online meetings and training sessions allow participants and instructors to be online at the same time, communicating with each other through voice or text chat, listening to PowerPoint presentations, and participating in online activities. We use the online Centra web meeting and conferencing tool to do this. These meetings use either a phone conferencing line or Voice over IP (internet) to provide the audio. There is no fee to build or participate in a Centra session. Participation may require a headset or microphone.

4) Professional Development online database - employees only
Employees and their supervisors use the Professional Development online database to view the employee's transcripts of completed courses and professional development activities. Once employees have successfully completed a course, instructors submit completion records through the In-Service Training system which then ports this information into the employee records in the Professional Development online database. Employees add their own professional development activities (such as conferences attended or committees they have served on) that are outside the In-Service Training system.
