| 1. | Practice setting up the laptop and projector prior to giving the presentation if at all possible. It’s a lot easier if you find out about what you may be doing wrong before you’re in front of an audience. |
| 2. | Always run the laptop from the AC adapter during a presentation. Make sure the battery is fully charged just as a backup. |
| 3. | Turn off the power saving options in Windows to prevent the laptop from going into standby mode during your presentation. |
| 4. | Connect the laptop and projector taking care not bend in any pins inside the connector. (Some projectors have two computer inputs, be sure to make note of which one you use.) |
| 5. | * If you only see the projector’s start up image (usually a blue background). Then press and hold the FN key while pressing the LCD/CRT key once on the laptop. You should then see the projected image of the computer screen; the laptop screen will go blank. Pressing FN and the LCD/CRT key a second time will transfer the computer image back to the laptop and the projector will go blank. Pressing this key combination the third time will allow the image to be displayed on the laptop and the projector simultaneously. At this point you should be ready to start your presentation. |
* On Gateway laptops the FN key is the bottom left key and the LCD/CRT key is F3. Some Gateway laptops have a simultaneous display mode and this step is not necessary.
On Dell laptops the FN key is the bottom left key and the LCD/CRT key is F8.
