Information Technology GroupWise 7.0 Handles Junk MailAlthough our spam filter blocks more than half of the spam sent to us daily, we still receive an inordinate amount of junk mail. GroupWise 7.0 helps you decide what to do with unwanted Internet e-mail. You can block as little or as much mail as you want, depending upon the personal settings you make. How it works All junk mail is placed in a junk mail folder. After a number of days, it will automatically be deleted. You decide what goes in the folder and how long to keep it before it is deleted. You can set up trusted addresses or domains for messages from those sources that are never considered junk and block messages from those sources that are always considered junk. Set up your junk mail folder to tag messages from anyone not in your address books:1. In GroupWise, select Tools and Junk Mail Handling. 2. Check the boxes to the left of Enable Junk List and Enable Junk Mail using personal address books. This will check incoming mail against all your address books, including Frequent Contacts, and move messages from people not in your books to the Junk Mail folder. 3. Check the box to the left of Automatically delete items and set the number of days to the range most comfortable for you. 4.Check the box to the left of Enable Block List 5.Select OK. GroupWise places suspected junk messages into your Junk Mail folder. Monitor the mail in that folder to recognize any legitimate mail. If a legitimate message appears in the folder, do the following: Right click on the message*, select Junk Mail and select either Trust sender or Add sender address to personal address book. Choose the options best for you and select OK. Under Trust sender, there is a box you can check to automatically move the trusted mail out of your junk folder to your mailbox. From this point on, it will be considered legitimate. If you receive mail from several people at a particular address that you always consider legitimate, you can add that domain to your Trust List: In GroupWise, select Tools and Junk Mail Handling. Select the Trust List tab and select New. Enter the domain you trust in the window and select OK. For instance, uark.edu should be entered as a trusted domain. Continue selecting New to enter as many domains as you wish. Other suggestions for trusted domains include: uamont.edu For more information, in GroupWise select Help, What's New and Junk Mail Handling. *Note: If not using a mouse, you can also select Actions from the menu bar and then select Junk Mail |
