Information Technology Change GroupWise after a move Sometimes people change desk or computers or jobs and it necessitates a change in the GroupWise software to pick up mail at the new desk or computer. The following is how you accomplish this. Remember, all your mail, folders and settings are kept on the server in Little Rock. You won’t loose any mail or folders. When you get to your new desk and computer, do the following. Make sure the GroupWise program is closed. Then make sure to close Notify if it is active. Close Notify by right clicking on the globe (at the bottom right in the task bar) then left click on Exit. Sometimes this globe has an envelope in it signifying that you have mail. There may not be a globe but if there is, make sure it is closed with right click then Exit. Click your right mouse button on the GroupWise icon on your desktop and a menu will appear. At the bottom of the menu, you will see Properties. Scroll down and click your left mouse button on Properties. The menu that appears has three 'tabs' at the top which are General, Shortcut and NetWare Version (Netware Version may not appear in older versions of GroupWise). Left click on the Shortcut tab to reveal the Target command line. What you’re going to do is add a space and then the command /@u-? (called a parameter) to the END of the Target command line. It should look like C:\NOVELL\GroupWise\GrpWise.exe /@u‑? when you finish. I know this is an odd looking command but it works. The forward slash is made with the small letter question mark, the @ is a capitol 2, then a small u, a hyphen and a question mark. Normally when GroupWise runs it either opens revealing your mail (Win98 and Win95) or prompts you for a password (WinXP). The parameter is added to make a login screen appear so you can change who logs in at that computer. After you click on Properties, Target line may be selected (in blue) when you go into Shortcut so be sure and click somewhere off of the line to deselect it so it won’t disappear when you start typing (If it does disappear, just go to the bottom click Cancel and start over). Type a space and then /@u-? Then, as I said, the Target line should look like the following C:\NOVELL\GroupWise\GrpWise.exe /@u‑? Now click on Apply and then OK at the bottom. If everything works, when you run the GroupWise Program by clicking on the GroupWise Globe Icon, a GroupWise Startup screen will appear and the person that will be receiving email on that computer can log in. Watch to make sure there is a proper username in the userid field. The program tries to use the computer Name sometimes and will put in Nina instead of nboston for example. Just use your normal login name (Ex: nboston (usually your first initial and last name) and password. After you log in once, you can go back to the properties/Shortcut Target line and remove the /@u-? parameter and the computer will always start inside your account (Windows XP requires the password each login). If more than one person will be using that computer for email, the command can be left in to always bring up a login screen for anyone who wishes to login there with proper username and password. If you have forgotten your password, you can call the state office 501 671-2192 (Susan James) to get the right person to reset your password for you. After it is reset and you have logged in with the new password, be sure and go to Tools/Options/Security in GroupWise and set a new and different password that you can remember. Don’t leave the password you are given as your permanent password. If the TCP/IP radio button (small round selectable area) is not checked then check it and make sure that 170.94.62.14 is in the address line. The port number is 1677. If someone has been using that machine for their e-mail then those numbers should already be there. |
