Family Resource Management Initiative
Family Resource Management programs include financial management, workforce
preparation and time management information.
Financial Management is a learned skill. We are interested in helping
Arkansans learn to:
$ Spend and save money to achieve short, intermediate
and long-term financial goals while keeping pace with day-to-day
obligations.
$ Use credit widely.
$ Plan for emergencies.
$ Practice effective consumer behaviors.
Time Management programs help the learner assess and plan their use of time
effectively.
Workforce Preparation is also of interest because how you receive your income
affects the amount of money you have to work with and whether the time spent is
work is personally rewarding.

Data and Data Sources for Family Resource Management Programs. Family
Resource Management Programs are grounded in research. Research can be
statistics that describe behaviors. Research can be empirical (derived from
research) findings that describe behavior. Research findings and statistics, for
Extension program planning purposes, are often called “benchmark data,” that is
findings that relate to and justify offering specific educational programs.

Grant Opportunities - NEFE (National
Endowment for Financial Education) and American Express offer an annual grant
opportunity of up to $30,000 to fund a program to deliver financial education to
underserved audiences. The program must use resources from the
NAEF Economic Independence Clearinghouse. Go to contents to view the
entire site. Then go to multi-media and learn about the financial education
clearing house. The Arkansas curriculum, Life Skills for Work & Family, is
listed in the clearinghouse. Many of the resource listings are available at no
charge. There is also a link to learn about the annual grants.
