Designing Newsletters That Will Get Read

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn tips and tricks to improve the design
of your newsletters. You will also learn how to take advantage of print on
demand and to use the print-on-demand templates we have prepared for you.
Promoting Your County Program

During this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to put together a marketing plan
that works for you.
Designing Eye-Popping Displays
Instructor: Chris Meux
Limit: 10 persons per workshop
This seminar will focus on planning, designing and creating exhibits that
accomplish their mission. From design and layout to writing compelling copy and
headers, you will learn what it takes to attract your audience and deliver your
message.
You'll also learn about the services provided to you at the Media Production
Center at the state office in Little Rock where we work with Specialists,
Agents, and other personnel to create custom exhibits and other communications
media.
Each participant will receive samples of our work and materials.
Write A News Story That Grabs ‘em
Instructors: Elizabeth Fortune and Lamar James
Limit: 12 persons
A one-day workshop where you’ll learn the basics of writing news releases,
radio scripts and newsletter articles. Specialists will teach you how to gather
and organize information, what editors want, style, grammar, spelling, writing
for the audience and the “nut graph.” You’ll hear from editors of news
organizations. You should bring information for an article to be written in
class for publication.
Improve Your Photographs + Using digital cameras
Instructors: Kevin Quinn
Limit: 15 persons
A one-day workshop to teach participants how to take better photographs for
newspapers, slide presentations and newsletters. The workshop will cover such
topics as how to take a pleasing and technically competent photo, using point
and shoot cameras, deciding which film to use and making the flash work for you.
We'll talk about composition, the rule of thirds, framing, focusing, shooting
closeups and paying attention to the background. Bring your digital camera,
laptop and examples of your work, and we'll discuss ways to hone your skills.
