"SEW Much Fun" - Fordyce, Sparkman, and Carthage

Due to demand from clientele, the Extension Homemakers Council partnered with the Dallas County Cooperative Extension Service to conduct beginner sewing classes in Fordyce, Sparkman, and Carthage. The two-day sewing classes in Fordyce consisted of four adult participants and three EHC volunteers. Three adults participated in Sparkman, and two adults participated in Carthage.

The participants learned how to read and understand patterns, to lay out a pattern onto the material, and then cut it out. After cutting out the pattern, the participants learned to thread the sewing machine. Upon completing their garment, they modeled their skirts for everyone.

The participants felt good about themselves and their completed garments; they also learned about the benefits of sewing versus buying. The participants are requesting future advanced sewing classes. Based on verbal evaluation and interest, a new EHC Sewing Project Club might be formed.
