Community Development Programs -"Serving Crittenden County"
The Crittenden County Farm Family of the year program recognizes one of our
outstanding farming family. Each year a committee of farm organizations,
agencies, businesses, and leaders meet to select and honor a county family. The
County Cooperative Extension Service gives leadership to this program. Farm
families are selected not only on farming ability but their commitment and
service to our community.
Extension Service provides leadership development to organizations and
community clubs. This spring, Rev. Raymond Shields with the Neighborhood Action
Council in West Memphis contacted our office. As a result, four sessions of
leadership development was presented to that group. The sessions covered:
Conducting an effective meeting, Parliamentary law, Committee duties, and Grant
writing.
Marion Vision-2010 was a community exercise in recognizing needs and
developing goals. Over 30 individuals participates in the program. The first
accomplishment was securing over $22,000 dollars for the purchase of playground
equipment at the Marion city park.
Crittenden County Extension Homemakers (EHC) reaches out in the community to
assist the elderly and the disadvantaged. They’ve adopted the Health Care and
Rehabilitation Center of West Memphis as their service project. They visit the
Center each holiday with goodies made by the members. They also make
contributions to Harris Care Home and Family in Transition (FIT).
