Extension Emphasizes IPM in Cotton
A weekly cotton newsletter was mailed to growers during the growing season
that emphasized Intergrated Pest Management, current research and Extension
recommendations. Results of the current weeks daily moth trap catches were
published in the newsletters.
Cotton Consultant meetings were conducted every two weeks throughout the
growing season. These meetings provided the latest research and recommendations
regarding Intergrated Pest Management in cotton.
Bollworm and tobacco budworm moth traps were surveyed five days a week at
eight locations in the cotton producing region of Craighead County. These traps
alerted growers not only to potential moth flights, but aided in the
identification of which moth species was present. By identifying the species,
appropriate control measures could then be applied.
