County Impact Statements - Bradley County
Extension Service Trains Leaders for Tomorrow Leadership Development Program

The strength of any community is determined by that community’s leadership. The lack of new/young leaders has been a concern of the local Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Corporation. In 2000, Bradley County Extension Council Community Development Committee also expressed the concern of lack of new leaders and no on-going Leadership Development Program. The Bradley County Extension approached the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce regarding developing a continuing Leadership Development Education Program.

A small group of participants of a 1996 Entergy Leadership Development Class was recruited to form the Bradley County Leadership for Tomorrow. Officers were elected and membership dues were assessed to provide funds to finance it’s operation.

A six session Leadership Development Program was developed. Approximately $1000 was solicited from members and local businesses and participants were recruited. Sixteen participants graduated from the first Leadership Class 2001. Of the 16 program graduates of the 2001 class, 11 have reported that they have entered into a leadership position.

The program was viewed as such a success that during 2002, a second class was recruited with 15 participants.
