Ashley County 4-H Investments in the Future

Almost everyone would agree that time spent on youth development is an investment in the future. Ashley county youth are known for their leadership and competitive spirit, and always bring back their share of awards.

Ashley County youth are also involved in a wide variety of subject matter areas that include:

Public speaking activities, forestry, wildlife, fashion, bicycle safety, foods

and nutrition, giant watermelon and pumpkin, photography, poster contest, displays at fairs, livestock - which include - beef, goat, horse, sheep and poultry, health, food bowl team, consumer economic judging, meat i.d. team and community service activities.

Impacts

  • In FY01, 1871 youth enrolled in 4-H clubs.

  • 114 youth participated in competitive activities and 4,626 in non-competitive activities.

  • Conducted 2 hour KAGH radio program with 20 youth and adults to educate and promote 4-H.

  • Conducted annual Rice for Ducks 4-H program.

  • 13 youth competed in district and state horse activities.

  • 20 participated in Broiler BBQ and 21 in O’Rama talks, winners at district and state.

  • 19 competed in outdoor activities including Gun safety, Bicycle safety, and Fishing activities.

  • 21 competed in Giant Watermelon and Pumpkin contest winning 1st and 2nd places in County Fair.

  • 10 participated in pullet chain and won at County Fair.

  • Horse Club won 1st at County Fair with EIA display.

  • Entomology collection winner.
