4-H Teen Leaders "Students Teaching Students"

Health Rocks! A community-based wellness and life skills program is a curriculum developed by National 4-H Council to reduce youth risk factors. The program focuses on positive youth development and life skills development as an approach to preparing young people to make healthy lifestyle choices. Health Rocks! which includes life skills such as decision making, critical thinking, and stress management is taught by Arkansas County 4-H Teen Leaders. The program promotes healthy lifestyle choices, targeting youth (ages 8 to 12). This program is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, or disability.

Character Critters: Character education is “the training of the heart and mind toward good.” Arkansas County 4-H Teen Leaders utilize the Character Critters program developed by LSU Agriculture Center – Cooperative Extension Service to teach preschool children. The Character Critters program features stories for very young children with a message about six key elements of character development – responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship and respect. These basic elements of character are relevant for all individuals, regardless of race, creed, ethnic group, gender, politics or wealth. The program increases children’s understanding of character concepts. Teaching children to exhibit character is an investment in tomorrow.
