I am responsible for identifying and analyzing potential mitigation banking and natural lands management opportunities; coordinating project permitting activities with regulatory entities; and monitoring governmental policies and guidance to ensure project compliance.

I was formerly the Assistant Secretary for the California Resources Agency and served as a Commissioner on the California Coastal Commission, State Coastal Conservancy, and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission. I was also responsible for managing California's nationally recognized comprehensive wetlands program. I have also served as the Project Manager for the San Francisco Estuary Project, the Chief Committee Consultant to the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture at the California State Legislature, and as a resource economist. I have worked for various resource agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

I have conducted fisheries and watershed assessments and am certified in wetland delineation. I hold a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego and a M.P.A. degree in Environmental Policy and Planning from San Francisco State University; I also completed a year of post-graduate study in Aquatic Ecology at the University of California, Davis and was a California Sea Grant Fellow. I have published numerous articles on wetland and coastal management issues.

Salary: $75,000 plus range

There are many opportunities for individuals interested in the fisheries profession with backgrounds in the socio-economic aspects of natural resources. I have found that there is a real need for individuals to be able to translate fisheries and natural science into the policy and decision-making arenas.
