Duties: Carl manages a large catfish production operation. Catfish are produced in earthen ponds in Arkansas. Responsibilities include feeding fish (a major expense in production and one which can make or break an operation), managing farm equipment and personnel, overseeing water quality monitoring, and scheduling stockings and harvests. A fish production manager must also keep up with the latest technological inovations in order to keep the farm competative. Education & Experience: This type of job requires business abilities in addition to an understanding of fish biology and ecology. Most production managers have at least a Bachelor of Science degree and some may have Master of Science degrees. Business classes would be beneficial and a farm manager usually has years of experience prior to taking over responsibility for the operation of a farm. |
