Farm Pond Management

  1. Farm Pond Management
    Wes Neal

Dr. Neal joined us in January 2004 and has developed several new research projects that are currently underway. He has received a grant from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to evaluate the Urban Fishing Program, Fishing Derby Program, and the Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs Program. He is also researching the efficacy of using hybrid striped bass to control prey populations in small impoundments, with hope that this management technique can be used to improve poor-quality fishing in ponds. He published five peer-reviewed manuscripts in 2004. Dr. Neal has been developing his Extension program in management of small impoundments, and has created a web-based pond management program for county agents and pond owners. He has worked with civic leaders to develop aquatic resources in Lake Village and Marion, and has designed and constructed a water exhibit for the Governor Mike Huckabee Delta River Nature Center.
