Extension Aquaculture Specialist


Position: Extension Aquaculture Specialist (Research Verification)

Location: Aquaculture/Fisheries Center, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Appointment: Twelve month (100% extension)

Qualifications: M.S. in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to develop a productive and high-impact extension program related to commercial warmwater aquaculture is required. A commitment to developing a dynamic extension program that has a strong impact on the state of Arkansas is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Arkansas ranks 2nd on aquaculture production in the U.S. The aquaculture industry in Arkansas includes major acreage in commercial production of catfish, baitfish, goldfish, and hatchery production of hybrid striped bass and sportfish. The Aquaculture/Fisheries Center has statewide responsibility to provide research-based extension recommendations in Arkansas for aquaculture. The incumbent will develop a productive extension program related to warmwater commercial aquaculture in Arkansas and will be expected to produce science-based management recommendations. The individual will manage the Aquaculture Research Verification Program in Arkansas. This includes chairing the verification committee, identifying cooperators and managing project duty and reporting. The person selected will maintain a web site with current data from research verification projects.

Personal Characteristics: The person selected for this position must be committed to a productive extension program and to transferring science-based management recommendations to fish farmers in Arkansas. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholder groups. Experience and background with enterprise budgeting and farm cost analysis preferred. Excellent skills in data analysis and presentation, electronic networking, and written communications are desirable.

Salary: Commensurate with and depending upon qualifications and experience.
