| Marine Shrimp (Inland Culture) |
In addition to freshwater prawns, there are a number of locations in Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Georgia and Arkansas, where marine shrimp are being raised inland during the summer months. Once past the larval stages, marine shrimp can tolerate water with low salt levels. The southeastern corner of Arkansas has some areas with slightly salty water. Given the vast shrimp farms in other countries and the wild catch from the Gulf of Mexico, inland shrimp will likely be sold as a specialty product for high-priced markets.
