RRVP Impact 2001
The University of Arkansas Rice Research Verification Program (RRVP) is an educational program designed to help farmers maximize profitability by maximizing yields and controlling production costs. In verification, University of Arkansas recommendations are applied on a participating farmer’s field to verify the validity of production practices and recommendations developed by researchers. As a result of his participation in Rice Research Verification program, Tommy Mans, Yell County rice producer, increased his rice yields by 18% while reducing production cost. Mans averaged 53 bushels per acre on the 94 acre field, resulting in $81 returned per acre above specified costs.
According to Mr. Mans, "The verification program has helped me do a better job of timing my herbicide applications, thus reducing the amount of herbicide that I use and reducing my costs. In addition, the Rice Verification Program has helped me to more efficiently use nitrogen and almost eliminate the need for mid-season nitrogen. The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service has really helped farmers in Yell County with local programs such as verification and on-farm variety demonstrations."
