Row Crop Production

In Yell County there is 17,000 acres of land devoted to the production of row crops. The primary crops grown in Yell County includes soybeans, corn, rice, and wheat. There are small acreages of grain sorghum and oats also produced in the county. Corn production has recently become a major crop for Yell County. Corn offers an excellent rotation crop and is easily marketed to the area poultry industry. It appears that corn acreage will continue to increase on an annual basis.

Acreage of various crops includes: soybeans, 8,500; corn, 4,000; rice, 1,500; and wheat, 3,000 acres. Grain sorghum and oats together occupy about 300 acres. There is a total of 1,030 acres of CRP land in Yell County. Another 1,000 acres is fallow.
