County Impact Statements - Woodruff County
Timely Information An Important Tool When Times Are Tough
In agriculture information is the best tool a farmer can have. With low
commodity prices and high input cost, farmers have to stay informed on the day
to day situations.
One way the Woodruff County Extension Service helps keep farmers informed is
through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) meetings held during the production
season. Farmers will hear about the local pest situation as well as the pest
situation across the state and mid-south. Growers also hear Extension
Specialists discuss timely production topics, such as weed control, insect
control, fertility, irrigation and disease control. Local farmers openly ask
questions about production problem in their farming operation because the
meetings are so informal.
For 13 years, the cotton growers of Woodruff County have attended these
informal meetings held under a gin shed at Cotton Plant. In FY 2000 a summer
series of rice IPM meetings were started for the rice producers of the Woodruff
County. These rice IPM meetings were held in McCrory, Hunter, and Cotton Plant
during FY 2001.

question during a summer IPM meeting.
