County Impact Statements - Woodruff County
Woodruff County Promotes Planning for the Future

An Estate Planning Program was conducted in Woodruff County for the first time this year. The program was conducted because many families accumulate wealth through years of hard work and management. Yet, some of these individuals neglect to plan for the orderly transfer of their estate to the next generation. The program was designed to help property owners with the fundamentals of estate planning and encourage them to plan for the preservation and transfer of their assets.

Thirty-four people participated in the two-day program. Since the program, five families have planned and received further knowledge on how to transfer their estate in an orderly fashion. The program was such a success that it will be repeated next year.

One family told me that they had their estate planned before this program but after attending the program they realized that estate laws can change from year to year. Therefore, their will was not up-to-date. They said after the program that they made an appointment with one of the guest speakers to look over their estate. The family told me that the program saved their children a lot of time and money after updating their will and more programs should be taught on this subject.

The program was sponsored by the three local banks in the county they were:

  • Bank of McCrory

  • Bank of Augusta

  • Merchant and Planters Bank
