Families are important!
Families are important to the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension
Service. There are many educational opportunities dedicated to healthy
weights for Arkansans, financial security in later life, planning for long-term,
and building Arkansas character (these are 4 of our Focus areas). Please
feel free to give us a call and learn more about our programs. Focus
areas are targeted programs directed toward the specific educational needs of
Arkansans, identified through research or surveys in the areas of agriculture,
families, youth and communities.
While many people still think of us as "home demonstration agents" or "home
economists", we've changed with the times. Yes, we can still help you with
your food preservation in the summer and extending your resources in the winter,
but we do so much more these days! From family life questions to childcare
provider training – from improving diet and health to getting out of debt –
Family and Consumer Science has the answers!
Extension Homemakers are also very valuable volunteers. This isn't your
Grandmother's "home demonstration club" either! EH volunteers are busy in
their communities – hosting birthday parties and making lap robes and bibs at
local nursing homes; making quilts, afghans, and dolls for the Arkansas
Children's Hospital; and tons of other activities. Last year, EHers
volunteered over 9,500 hours of community service to White County!
