Learning "How to Prevent Skin Cancer"
In today’s fast paced world, taking care of yourself is ever important.
Master Gardeners spend most of their time outside, volunteering to help others,
and making the world a better place. That is a wonderful way to spend your days,
but you need to remember to be "Sun Smart."
In response to this problem, Amber Hairston, County Extension Agent, Family
and Consumer Science/4-H developed a PowerPoint presentation to be delivered to
new members at the White County 2003 Master Gardener Training and the Arkansas
State Master Gardener Conference. The Presentation title was "How to Prevent
Skin Cancer."
The program identified the various warning signs and the types of skin
cancer. Participants were invited to join in on the presentation by taking a
verbal true/false test to determine their knowledge of skin cancer.
Self-examination guidelines and examples were discussed. Personal stories were
shared by people in the class who had been affected by skin cancer.
White County Master Gardeners, as well as Master Gardeners from across the
state, are taking extra precautions while gardening and doing other outdoor
activities.
