Family and Consumer Science
Strong families are the foundation of Arkansas communities - in a state
with a positive future. Regardless of their resources, families want to
have a comfortable and safe home environment, spend quality time
together, realize personal and family financial security and achieve
some degree of success.
The ability of Arkansas families to function in a supportive economic
environment is increasingly challenged. The Cooperative Extension
Service addresses this challenge by linking families to research and
education. Our society assumes that individuals and families will
somehow acquire the skills to prevent or cope with today's issues.
Through preventive education, families develop the tools to become
healthy, productive, financially secure and environmentally responsible
members of society.
Through the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) strategic planning
process, the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas
identified four priority areas for programming in 1997. We are
challenged to provide a dynamic educational program that enhances the
quality of life for Arkansas families.
