Washington County Children Deserve "The Best"

Children enjoying hands-on activities during "Farm Friends"

Since Extension’s creation more than 79 years ago, meeting the needs of Arkansas families has been at the core of our organization’s mission.

In an effort to increase the awareness of children and how agriculture relates to their lives "Farm Friends" was developed as an experience for hands on training between the preschoolers and farm animals. Over the past six years, over 3,000 preschoolers have visited the "Farm Friends" exhibits in April.

This past year "Farm Friends" was expanded to reach out to the entire county and show the importance of agriculture in Washington County. Over 750 preschoolers attended this event along with around 500 adults. Farm facts were presented to show the importance of Agriculture to everyone. There were "hands on" exhibits relating to foods, nutrition, character building, water quality, farming equipment, horticulture, forage, and livestock production.

Since our forefathers laid down the blueprints for our great nation, agriculture has been the cornerstone of our freedom and way of life. It is imperative that everyone develops an understanding of agriculture’s contributions to our society.
