Reshape Yourself: Promotes Healthy Lifestyle

Picture of an instructor pointing out positive healthy choices to a participant.
Ramona Russell, Extension Homemaker volunteer instructor points out positive choices in Ellen Brown’s food plan.

Reshape Yourself provides 15 weeks of nutrition education and group support for individuals wanting to work toward a healthier lifestyle, which may include losing weight. There are no gimmicks or special items to buy. There are no diets! Eating is based on the food guide pyramid which is an eating plan that can be followed the rest of your life. The program includes a pre and post program cardiac risk panel and blood glucose test.

What did participants gain from these classes? Support from others who are trying to reach healthy lifestyle goals, knowledge of how to make positive lifestyle changes, and develop healthy eating habits are only a few of the benefits of the program. Program participants were not only reshaping their bodies, but were reshaping their lifestyle. They made changes in eating habits, both at home and when eating out, as well as in shopping and cooking habits.

"The biggest help for me was the information on portion control. I was really shocked when I realized how much my family and I were "overeating." So, portion size for my family has really changed, especially when it comes to snack and junk food. I also see how even just a little exercise goes a long way in helping to burn off what you do eat. I will walk regularly for the rest of my life." -Kimberly, Reshape Yourself Graduate

"I had an exercise program in place, so my concentration in this class was eating the correct portions. Fat comparison was an eye opener. I look more closely at labels, now." -Ebba, Reshape Yourself Graduate
