County Impact Statements - Scott County
Extension Programs Provide Cost Effective Health Care Services to Residents of Scott County

The leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease. Statistics show that Arkansans have an increased risk of heart disease when compared to national averages. Educating the general public about health risks is one method which has proven effective in reducing the number of fatalities from this and other chronic diseases.

The following educational booths were offered: Arkansas Foundation for Medical Services, Saint Edwards Mammography, Saint Edwards Mammography Van United Blood Services, Mercy Medical Hospital, Area Agency on Aging, Hospice, Scott County Health Department, Department of Human Services, Plummer Drug, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Super- Sav Drug, Farm Bureau, Shelter Insurance, State Farm Insurance, American Cancer Society, Scott County Learning Center, EHC, 4-H, Cooperative Extension Service.

Impacts

  • 20 Educational booths offered free or low cost medical services to residents.
     
  • Residents saved over $2,500 in medical expenses.
     
  • The following tests were offered at little or no cost mammography - 8, blood sugar - 30, blood pressure - 40 and blood oxygen level testing - 50
