County Impact Statements - Pulaski County
Extension Programs Support Families Living on the Financial "Edge"

The number of bankruptcy filings has remained high in our county. The average weekly earnings per worker in Pulaski County is $518.46. Twenty-five percent of the children in our progressive county live in poverty. Learning to manage available dollars is critical to Pulaski County individuals and families. As of April 2, 2001, 130 Money 2000 Pulaski County participants reported saving $26,303.00 following their participation in this Extension program.

"My personal goal was to be debt free by 2000. I'm as 'debt free' as I can possibly be. Our only bills are utilities, insurance and taxes. I have achieved this in addition to my Money 2000 goal of saving $1,000." - Pulaski County Money 2000 Participant

Money 2000 is an educational program designed to encourage an increase in savings and/or decrease debt. Families living on the financial "edge" with no savings and high debt loads find it difficult - if not impossible- to weather a financial crisis. The Cooperative Extension Service has developed a range of educational programs to address the issues of low saving and high debt among families.

"There's no other program like this available to the public. What a value! Money 2000 helps you set goals, receive current money news in an attractive newsletter, and best of all, receive a gentle contact of encouragement by phone or e-mail to motivate you to reach your goals." - Mary Ann Campbell, CFP
