Polk County Master Gardeners Accomplishments
Polk County Courthouse
The Courthouse Project included a survey of the trees on the grounds and
recommendations by Doug Akin, Urban Forestry Coordinator, Arkansas Forestry
Commission, to decide what pruning should be done and which trees needed to be
removed.
A landscape plan was prepared, taking into consideration the existing
planting and the soil conditions.

Williamson Preparing Front Bed, October, 2001
The American Legion donated funds to design and plant a garden by the
veterans Memorial. The center of this bed is a group of Ballerina antique roses.
This rose was introduced in 1937, and the Master Gardeners felt it would be
appropriate for the 1939 Courthouse. At the request of the American Legion, the
bed will include red poppies every year.

Garden by the Veterans Memorial
The creation and maintenance of the Courthouse gardens is an ongoing project
for PCMG. The beds will be weeded, plants pruned, annuals added and removed, and
mulch maintained.
