County Impact Statements - Phillips County
Extension Develops Future Leaders in Phillips County

Leadership development has been identified as a critical need in Phillips County. The Extension Service in Phillips County in cooperation with the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce has developed a series of short courses in leadership development. The first short course was conducted in the fall of l999 with an enrollment of 20 Phillips County citizens. This short course was repeated in the spring of 2000.

Subjects included were "What is Leadership", "Leadership Styles", "How Phillips County Relates" and "The Future of Phillips County".

In the spring of 2001, the participants in the two basic leadership short courses were invited to participate in an advanced leadership short course. Twenty graduates of the basic short course participated in the advanced short course.

Subjects included in the advanced short course included "Public Speaking and Team Building", "Dealing With People", "Strategic Planning of Goal Setting", and "Conflict Resolutions."

Impacts

  • 40 citizens of Phillips County completed a basic leadership short course.
     
  • 20 of these citizens of Phillips County completed an advanced leadership short course.
     
  • Participants learned basic leadership styles as well as advanced techniques for dealing with people and developing personal leadership styles.
