County Impact Statements - Phillips County
CRVP Contributes to Increase Yields

Phillips County cotton producer Earnest Larry obtained an increase in cotton yields by 332 pounds of lint per acre. His yield was 149 pounds of lint higher than the county’s average. He attributes his yield increase to implementing the Extension Services cotton production recommendations. The Cotton Research Verification Program was conducted on his 30 acre field. Some changes implemented on the field included using the Extension Service- developed, computer-aided management programs including the irrigation scheduler program, and the COTMAN program.

The CRVP program has been a highly successful demonstration of the importance of timely management and incorporation of new technology into cotton production. It has also served as an excellent training tool for county Extension agents to learn more about cotton production.

Contributing to the success of the program has been the commitment of Extension and Research personnel; grower cooperation; the program organization, planning and implementation; and the close attention to program objectives.

The CRVP allows participants to manage field situation that are not always conducive to maximum economic yield. The program allows demonstration of alternative production systems for problem or yield-limiting situations encountered in grower fields.

Impacts

  • Cooperative Extension Specialists and agents provide a variety of education and research services:

  • Conduct on-farm field trials to verify research-based recommendations in actual field production.

  • Develop on-the-farm database for use in economic analyses.

  • Aid researchers in identifying areas of soybean production requiring further study.

  • Improve recommendations that contribute to profitable soybean production using both irrigated and non irrigated production systems.
