Perry County 4-H
Arkansas 4-H Centennial

Arkansas 4-H marks 100 years of youth in 2008
In October 2008, one of the state’s largest youth programs turns
100 years young. To mark the occasion, Arkansas 4-H, a program of
the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, will begin
its centennial celebrations this fall with rallies around the state.
From its humble beginnings as the 1908 White County Corn and Cotton
Club, 4-H today touches the lives of more than 145 thousand Arkansas
youths statewide in every county. For more information on 4-H and
its centennial activities, contact your county extension office.
Year of Events Helps Mark Arkansas 4-H Centennial
Events celebrating 100 years of Arkansas 4-H are as diverse as
the youth program itself. A series of rallies marking a year of
celebrations will begin in October. Other events planned for the
year include a 4-H 5K run-walk, a 100-mile cycle race and a
statewide clover relay. 4-Her’s will be eligible to take part in
special members-only events throughout the year, including the
annual 4-H O-Ramas and competitions at the 2007 Arkansas State Fair.
The celebration will culminate in September 2008 with the “Dinner of
the Century.” This dinner, a green-tie formal gala, will also be a
major fund-raiser for 4-H programs in Arkansas. For more information
about these and other centennial activities, contact your county
agent.
