County Impact Statements - Montgomery County
4-H Program is growing!
Youth have fun as they learn new skills

"This year, through 4-H I have started a 4-H show pig project. This has helped me have more responsibility because I have had to feed and water every day. Being a counselor at the 4-H Day Camp has also helped me. If every kid could be in 4-H, they would be a better person because of it."  - Mandy McCarter

Each summer, a three-day County Day Camp is held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for all 4-H members. Young people from all across the county are invited to participate in the programs, which include special interest projects, games and practical information like water safety, gun safety and character building.

This year the camp attracted 75 youth and utilized 15 older 4-H members in leadership roles as group leaders, counselors and teachers. Thirty workshops and learning activities were held at camp.

Youth in Montgomery County participated in activities conducted at the 4-H Center in Ferndale: State 4-H Camp, Forestry and Wildlife Camp, CAPS Camp, Excel and Teen Leaders Conference. Competitions in public speaking and skills are an important part of 4-H work. 18 youth participated in the District 4-H O’Rama at Henderson State University and 7 youth and 2 leaders participated in the State 4-H O’Rama held at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
