County Impact Statements - Mississippi County
The Youth Leadership Program A Big Plus for Mississippi County

There are few opportunities for leadership development for youth in the county. The Youth Leadership Program was developed to provided training for high school juniors to help them realize their leadership potential. The program is conducted over a nine month period. Some of the goals are to promote community involvement and relationships, to increase awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement, to practice various dimension of leadership and fellowship and to promote an increased sense of civic and community responsibility.

Each high school in the county participates in the program. This past year, we had a total of 7 schools with an enrollment of 28 students.

Impact

This program has grown in this last four years since we have started. We have had over 80 students to graduate from the program.

One example of leadership development from this program: one individual felt his leadership skills had improved so much that he ran for student council president and won. All participants have used their skills to feel more confident in pursuing their goals.
