Summer 4H Camp provides Fun and Learning for 4H Members
"Technology" Workshops are a Big Hit with 4H Members
Today's youth are less likely to get mixed up in drugs and crime if we can
get them involved in youth programs like 4H.. There is a long list of projects,
activities, and camps for youth to participate in through the 4H program. Summer
camp has been one of the funest and most popular 4H programs in which to
participate.
One of the main objectives of 4H is to help youth to develop life skills
needed to live and work in today's technological society. Hands on activities
held at summer 4H camp help them acquire skills such as using a computer or
finding their way around with a GPS unit. Many 4H members join 4H after
attending summer camp at the Arkansas 4H center.
The Armorel Tigers, Blytheville Bookworms, Osceola Seminoles, and Keiser
Outdoor club are the active 4H clubs in the county. A total of around 50 active
members in these clubs have attended camp at one time or another. This year 47
4H members attended camp along with 3 adult volunteers. We took more than twice
as many 4H members to camp this year compared to last.
The kids and adult leaders attending camp all had a blast. The "Technology"
workshops like Robotic Legos and Remote control car racing were the hands on
learning experiences needed to hook these kids on 4H. The 4H members who
attended plan to get involved in more 4H activities and try to get some of their
friends to join 4H. The volunteers also came back from camp with a strengthened
commitment for getting the most out of Arkansas 4H programs.

Impacts
47 4H members attended state 4H camp this summer.
All but one 4H club in Mississippi county had members to attend camp.
Kevin Yost of the Blytheville 4H club served for his second year as a camp
counselor. A half dozen other county members want to follow his footsteps.
3 volunteers leaders helped chaperone camp. They came back many new ideals to
work with members in their clubs.
Camp is funded in part by contributions from the United Way and from local
businesses and individuals. The 4H members also participate in fund raisers like
the annual Omelet event.
