Financial Planning Workshop

Picture of Lazaro in front of Camaco manufacturing plant.

Lazaro in front of Camaco manufacturing plant.

Camaco, the local manufacturing plant that made automotive parts, closed their doors, and more than 215 people lost their jobs. WorkForce requested help for the workers to prepare them for unemployment. Since the plant was closing, workers would need financial planning information that would assist them with everyday decision making. We conducted a Financial Planning Workshop by using Extension’s money management information. Educational information regarding budgeting, credit cards and spending was presented in it. The workshop was held in the breakroom at Camaco. Extension fact sheets on budgeting and credit cards and a Power Point presentation was used to explain how to put their finances in order.

As a result, 215 individuals now understand how to prepare a financial statement and budget wisely. They understand what shape they are in and what needs to be done to stay financially sound. Several people came by the office to request more handouts after the meeting.

Impacts

  • Navigating the Financial Journey Workshop was held to inform individuals of the importance of checking their credit report. With Identity Theft being a problem, they needed to know what to look for on their credit report.

  • Job Application & Interview Skills Workshop was conducted for local church group to assist youth in developing skills that will make more attractive for local employment. Twenty-five youth between the ages of 11 and 18 attended the class.
