4-H Youth Development Etiquette Training

Picture of youth sitting at a table
Youth participating in Table Etiquette Workshop

Four 4-H youth did not know how to use proper table etiquette while attending State 4-H O’Rama activities. The Expanded Food and Nutrition program assistants, 4-H program aide and FCS agent teamed together to conduct a workshop. The workshop was designed to increase knowledge in table etiquette, business and dress etiquette, and using good manners. Youth were asked to set the table before the workshop, and none of them performed the task correctly.

After the workshop, each youth performed the task correctly. At the State 4-H O’Rama, each youth used their knowledge and skills in dressing, manners and table etiquette. They were proud of themselves while they were watching others that did not demonstrate proper skills in these areas. They thanked us for the workshop and said they will continue to use these skills because they now see the importance. They stated, the workshop will improve their quality of life.

Mobile Dairy Classroom

We hosted the Mobile Dairy Classroom for grades Pre-K – 8. Mike Mann of Sparkman, Ark. pulled the 26-foot demonstration trailor with a portable milking system. A “real live cow” sets inside the trailor and is milked by the portable milking machine. The event reached 1033 youth, teachers and other staff members. Most of the students had never seen a cow being milked!! They received dairy snacks such as cheese sticks and yogurt. They also received information regarding the nutritional value of milk and milk products.
