Walk Across Arkansas Team Improves Community Health

Walk Across Arkansas was an eight-week health program that sparked friendly competition in Lawrence County and across the state of Arkansas. Teams of up to eight competed to see who could log the most miles walking, jogging, swimming, biking, etc.

Walk Across Arkansas program is designed to persuade and motivate people of all ages to make an important change in their lives – to follow a plan to improve their health and fitness. Lawrence County’s team of eight "blew the rest of the state of the competition" in logging time devoted to health and fitness.

"I am diabetic and I have decreased my medication to almost half. My energy level has increased due to the exercise. This is a life style that I want to continue and this program has helped me." – Mildred Smith

"I enjoyed the Walk Across Arkansas, which we won. I hope we have another program this summer." - Vada Ruth Davis

Walk Across Arkansas is a fun and flexible way to exercise. Just get together with several other people - friends, neighbors, coworkers, or family members - and start walking, jogging or even biking. You can walk together or individually, outside, at a mall or a gym, or any way that fits your schedule and lifestyle. You keep track of your miles, to see if you can walk the 300 miles "Across Arkansas" in eight weeks and by the end of Walk Across Arkansas, you'll have a healthy habit that will last a lifetime!
