Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Programs Increase Local Volunteerism

What is a volunteer...................

A person who performs or offers to perform a service of his or her own free will

A person who renders aid, performs a service, or assumes an obligation voluntarily.

The Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service impacts and increases volunteer leadership within the community by educating leadership groups on researched-based subject matter.

The Extension Homemakers are a group of volunteers within Lawrence County whose overall mission is to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of living through continuing education, leadership development, and community service.

The following are just a few of the topics that the Extension Homemakers were educated on in 2003:

"Arthritis: Managing Aches & Pains"
"Functional Foods: Foods That Protect Your Health"
"Making Sweet Spreads for Special Diets"
"Critical Conversations About Financing Long-Term Care"
"A Child’s Developing Brain"
