County Impact Statements - Lawrence County
Fair Judging School - Increases Volunteerism for Miles Around
The Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service conducted a very
successful Fair Judging School. There were approximately 90 people in
attendance with 11 counties represented. The counties in attendance were:
Clay, Craighead, Cross, Fulton, Greene, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Poinsett,
Randolph, and Sharp.
Seven classes were taught, two times each, by County Extension Agents‑Family
and Consumer Sciences from 11 different counties. The classes were: Educational
Displays, Preserves, Photography, Baked Foods, Clothing, Quilts, and Household
Arts.
Every newly educated Fair Judging School participant received a certificate
of accomplishment for each completed course.
- 98% of participants reported that presented "ideas and concepts
greatly increased their confidence for judging in their area."
- 96% reported that "the handouts significantly reinforced their
understanding of judging strategies."
- 98% reported that they "felt that the classes increased their
knowledge and/or abilities as exhibitors."

Impacts
The Fair Judging School helped provide an educational opportunity that
enhanced the quality of fair judging throughout many surrounding counties.
