River Valley Healthy Living
River Valley Healthy Living is a four-county effort focusing on
nutrition, exercise, relationships and finance to help you and your
family live healthy, well-balanced lives. This program was developed
as a result of a special multi-county initiative that allows county
agents to specialize in a specific area of family and consumer
science and provide that information throughout the multi-county
area.
Extension Homemakers
Extension Homemakers are valuable volunteers. There are seven EH clubs in
Johnson County. They meet monthly to learn about things that can help them
improve the quality of life for their family and community. Extension Homemakers
are also busy with community service projects such as hosting bingo at local
nursing homes; making dolls for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, putting
together packets of information for newlyweds and tons of other activities. To
learn how you can be a part of the Johnson County Extension Homemakers, contact
the Johnson County Extension office or email

Walk Across Arkansas:
Dust off your walking shoes, gather up a few friends, co-workers, or family
members and join the Johnson County Walk Across Arkansas program.
Walk Across Arkansas is an 8 week health program to encourage teams of eight
people to get involved in walking, jogging, biking or other physical activity.
Team members do not literally Walk Across Arkansas, but record their miles and
pool them as a team. Team captains report their team mileage each week to the
Extension office where they are posted on a map. The teams are involved in a
friendly competition to see who walks the farthest “across Arkansas”.
The Johnson County Walk Across Arkansas program kick-off was held on October
3. The program runs from October 5 to November 29. A celebration will be held on
December 5 with prizes and certificates awarded to team participants. For more
information on this program, e-mail
spickle@uaex.edu or contact the Johnson County Extension office.
