Extension Homemakers Teach Others
Extension Homemakers in Howard County focus on leadership, community service
and education. They meet on a monthly basis with part of the club meeting
devoted to learning a new skill in the areas of financial management, health and
nutrition, or family life.
Leader training lessons are conducted each month for leaders from each club
to attend and learn something new. The information learned is then shared in the
clubs during their monthly club meeting.
Each club is encouraged to conduct at least one community service project a
year. Many do more. Projects include birthday parties at the local nursing home,
blood drives, volunteer work at the literacy council and community centers.
EHC members in Howard County have the best educational facilities in the
state. They got them through hard work and fund raising events. Catering special
events continues to be the main fund raising activity. This year they were able
to pay off a debt for the purchase of the property next door to the EH Center.
The debt was paid off in just eighteen months. The property will become a
parking lot for the center.
Thirty-seven leaders participated in the Quad-County EHC Leadership
Conference. The conference helps builds leadership skills and teamwork skills.

Members of the Belles Extension Homemakers Club teach 4-H youth
in a learn-by-doing workshop.
