About Us
County Impact Statements - Howard County

In Howard County we really do utilize the theme, "Extension Works for Me". We strive to provide programs that are needed and wanted by the citizens of the county. The County Extension Council guides the program in developing educational programs. Programs are focused in three main areas: agriculture, family life and 4-H youth development.

In the agricultural area, programs focused on livestock production, peach production, forestry, wildlife management, beef cattle herd health, alternative grazing strategies, farm management, beef cattle management and encouraging young people to stay in the farming business.

In the family consumer science area, programs focused on parenting and violence prevention, with a minor emphasis on health and nutrition. Several new programs were implemented including newsletters, 1, 2, 3, 4 Parenting Program and school nutrition. The Baby Think It Over and violence prevention programs continue to be important issues that need to be addressed.

The 4-H youth development program has shown impressive growth through community clubs and school programs. Three new 4-H community clubs have been organized along with adding several new volunteer adult leaders. Howard County 4-H is recognized as a leader across the state.

Extension Homemaker groups in Howard County continue to be the envy of the state with their Extension Homemaker Educational Center. We also continue to have an impressive group of young Extension Homemakers.

As we move into the next program year, Extension looks forward to continuing to work for the people of Howard County by providing educational and timely programs.
