Best Care and Violence Prevention Programs Conducted in Howard
County
Day Care Providers are required to receive a minimum of ten hours of training
each year. Finding a place close to home can be a challenge for these providers.
The Best Care Program is conducted in a three county cluster area which offers
the training needed close to home.
Topics covered included: Involving Parents and Communicating Effectively with
Parents, Building Good Relationships with Children, Understanding Child
Behavior, Dealing with ADHD Children, Keeping Food Safe, and Marketing Your
Child Care Center.
Every week in Arkansas, two youth ages 15 - 17 die from violence, 13 are
arrested for violent crimes and 81 are arrested for alcohol/drug related crimes.
Fact is that violence is a learned behavior and non-violent behavior can be
learned at an early age through prevention education programs.
Both the Groark and Roger Robot Violence Prevention Programs were conducted
with kindergarten and first grade students in the county schools. The programs
help children learn how to handle their anger, deal with conflict, learn more
about effective communication and discourage prejudice.
"These programs have really helped me to teach our students positive ways to
handle conflict. I look forward to teaching the programs every year." -
