Bermudagrass Test Plots
Bermudagrass Test Plots Located in Hot Spring County
Are you interested in seeing fourteen varieties of
Bermudagrass growing in one location where you can compare them to each other.
Farmer and Ranchers in Hot Spring County can do this without leaving Hot Spring
County. These plots are located on the Charles Ross Farm on Beaver Lake Estate
Road just past Magnet Cove School. Each variety has a sign listing it name and
these plots can be viewed without getting out of your car.
These test plots were started in 1998 from a test being conducted by Larry
Sandage, our Extension Forage Specialist stationed at Bateville, Arkansas.
Agents from the Southwest District were given an opportunity to establish a test
in our counties. We planted our plots on June 4, 1998 and have been collecting
yield data from that time. Following is a list of the varieties and their
average yield for the three years: STW14-11 (10,736), Williams (10,272), 74X12-6
(9,344), 74X11-2 (9,056), World Feeder (8,864), OK2-74X21-8 (8,768), OK374X21-6
(8,688) Midland (8,624), Tifton 44 (8,445), Greenfield (8,352), Guymon (8,048),
OK-4 STW 10-9 (7,952), STW 12-2 (7,856), OK ISTW 12-9 (7,584).
