Multi-prong Nutrition, Health and Wellness

The mission of the multi-prong Nutrition, Health and Wellness program is to empower individuals and families to maximize their food dollars; to provide a nutritious, safe, secure meal environment and women’s health issues.

The Food Nutrition Educational Program (FNEP) is an educational program designed to encourage increased knowledge and skills related to basic nutrition and meal planning, food purchasing, preparation and safety; budgeting and resource management. This program provides Food Stamp recipients, persons eligible for Food Stamps, or other limited resource audiences the opportunity to increase their knowledge, and skills enable them to adopt the necessary behavior changes to achieve a healthier lifestyle while fighting hunger and poor nutrition.

The women’s health issues focused on Diabetes, Osteoporosis, Calcium, risk factors of high fat diets and food borne illnesses resulting from unsafe handling of our food supply. Ninety-six participants gained knowledge about risk factors of leading causes of death for women.

The third emphasis of the program focused on teaching youth healthy eating the Food Pyramid Way, food safety, the need for exercise and the connection between agriculture–food supply.
