County Impact Statements - Greene County
Cotton Variety Demonstration

Situation

This program audience was Greene County cotton producers. Greene County has 20,000 acres of cotton each year. The county average yield for Greene County is 628 pounds per acre. Roundup ready cotton varieties are relatively new technology available to growers. This demonstration’s goal was to demonstrate the adaptability of eight roundup ready cotton varieties to Greene County growing conditions.

Stakeholder Satisfaction

Ten staff days were committed to this demonstration. Cotton producers participated in this program through a field demonstration tour conducted and through production meetings held.

Accomplishments and Impacts

Selection of the correct cotton variety for a particular area can many times result in a 200 pound increase in lint yields per acre. 200 pounds, times 50 cents per pound, times 20,000 acres of cotton in Greene County would be an increase in gross income to Greene County cotton producers of $2,000,000.
