Master Gardeners:
Extension program works to beautify and educate community

Master Gardeners begin a new garden project with the City Parks & Recreation Dept.

The Courthouse, greenway Xeriscape garden, Yard of the Month, flowerbeds, and youth projects that the Garland County Master Gardener program members work on and promote continue to be a true success and asset to Garland County. The projects not only serve to beautify the community, they also promote the program in the community and enhance the lives of Garland County residents.

One of the newest and most visible projects that the Garland County Master Gardener program has developed in the past year (with cooperation from the Hot Springs’ Parks and Recreation Department) is the Xeriscape garden on the city greenway. The garden lies adjacent to the Hollywood Park complex and sports fields that are used by numerous city and county residents.

Current Garland County Master Gardener projects:

Como Square, County Courthouse grounds, County Fairgrounds, Educational Series, North Garland Boys & Girls Club, Triangle & City Greenhouse, Youth Activities, Xeriscape, Garvan Woodland Gardens, Urban Forestry, Yard of the Month, and many others.

The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service Master Gardener program invites individuals to combine an interest in horticulture with a willingness to serve their community. Master Gardeners receive 40 hours of classroom instruction in horticultural topics in exchange for volunteer service. An ongoing commitment to volunteer projects and continuing education ensures the integrity of the Master Gardener designation.
